I was thinking how so many people I know have such a hard time handling common adversities. Dealing with governmental bureaucracies is probably the likeliest occurrence. "But why can't they see that isn't right?" Sometimes there are things you must just accept as they are.
If you're hungry and you see a round object on the ground and, at first glance, you think "oh good, an apple"; But, when you pick it up you realize it's a rock, that's a disappointment. Now you can accept that and move on or you can get aggrevated and insist it should be an apple. No matter how mad you get, how loud you yell, how long you fight with it, it is still a rock. That reminded me of the prayer 12 step programs use...
"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
and Wisdom to know the difference."
I don't think you need to be in a 12 step program to appreciate that sentiment. It is a basis for dealing with life. There are some things that are what they are and, no matter how much you want them to be something else, it ain't never gonna happen.
